General information about Fund Raising
Fund Raising is a general term used for seeking and collecting money collectively by a group of people. The purpose of such fund raising vary widely. Such type of fund raising may be from individuals, business houses, charitable institutions etc. Fund raising may constitute generally for non-profit purposes like donations to those who belong to the poorer or backward section of the society. In fact, fund raising for humanitarian purposes is very common But, Fund raising also includes solicitation or financial participation of investors in Corporate houses for profit yielding projects.
Many non-profit organizations resort to fund raising for their operations. Such non-profit organization utilize funds thus collected for various purposes like philanthropic activities, religious activities , research activities , environmental activities and even in political activities.
Non – profit organizations sometime take help of professional fundraisers. The method of payment to such professional fundraisers vary but mostly in the form of fees which is unrelated to the amount of fund actually raised. But, in some cases percentage payment is also done which is forbidden and resented by a segment of public. In some countries like United States, such percentage payment and their corresponding ratio vis-а-vis the funds retained by the organization, is supposed to be reported formally to the concerned authority like the state’s Attorney General.
There are many other purposes for which Fund Raising is resorted-to around the world in almost in every country. One such purpose for fundraising is purely political. These funds are raised and used for political campaigns especially during general elections in all democratic countries in the world. This fund raising practice has become so overwhelming that in all form of election for any public elected post , it has its presence felt. Inspite of various enactments to curb fund raising for political campaigning, the practice is continuing unabated in most of the countries. Another most noticeable fund raising is by various religious groups either openly or at times subversively. The use of such funds by such religious organizations are never found to be transparent and at times causing tension in the region.
